Former LCCO Music Director Dr. David Oertel, now the conductor of the Starlight Symphony Orchestra in Wimberley, Texas, has been recognized for creating one of the best seasons of orchestral concerts for the 2019-2020 season.
Oertel was awarded second place in the community orchestra division for The American Prize , the Vytautas Marijosius Memorial Award in Orchestral Programming. The Prize rewards the best achievement in the unique field of orchestral programming, where the selection of repertoire by music directors builds orchestras and audiences, educates young people and adults, and enriches the community.
The American Prize National Non-profit Competitions in the Performing Arts
is among the nation's most comprehensive series of contests in the classical arts. The categories for the Orchestral Programming Award include professional orchestra, community orchestra, college or university orchestra, and youth orchestra.
Oertel served LCCO for 13 seasons from 1996 through 2013. This is the third year in a row that Oertel has placed for The American Prize. He previously won first place in 2019 (for the 2017-2018 season) and third place in 2020 (for the 2018-2019 season). Congratulations, David!
