Lee County Community Orchestra’s 36th season performing free concerts for the Sanford area kicks off Oct. 14 and 15 at the Mann Center. “Visions: Love and Landscapes” will feature Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture and Sibelius's Finlandia.
“Visions” is the first of four sets of concerts in the orchestra’s 2023-24 season entitled “Explorations.” Music Director Vincent Povázsay believes a concert can be a doorway to discovery for both the audience and musicians. “We invite everyone to explore orchestral music with us and enjoy its power to evoke emotions and tell stories,” says Povázsay.
In preparation, LCCO began rehearsals in August after its summer break. The orchestra is integrating several new members including violinist Margareta Johnson and flutist Shea James.
Povázsay says LCCO is always looking for new musicians. “The orchestra welcomes musicians young and old to come play, make friends and enjoy being a part of the full sound of an ensemble.”
A special part of the October concerts will be flutist Jillian Storey’s solo performance in the stunning Reinecke Flute Concerto. The season continues with the popular Christmas concerts in early December followed by two more sets of concerts in March and May of next year.
